| Ray Dilba left Cherry Hill and came to Margate City last year and re-opened a Margate landmark that had been closed for a long while. The Margate Café was a place where many began their days with a freshly brewed cup of coffee and friendly conversation. The previous owners improved the décor considerably, but changed the menu, which didn’t suit the regulars who preferred simpler fare. Dilba has retained the Doo-Wop décor, but has reverted to more traditional food selections, as well as some new culinary creations and modern innovations. For instance, Dilba’s provides wireless Internet access and doesn’t use trans fat oils for cooking and frying.

Owner Ray Dilba | Dilba, however, is an old-fashioned proprietor who greets his customers like they are old friends. And following a tradition he started with his own children, taking them out for birthday breakfasts, kids now enjoy free birthday breakfasts.
The small restaurant has two big menus, one for breakfast, one for lunch. All omelets ($5.95-$7.95) are made with three eggs and served with toast, jelly and home fries. Breakfast Combos are $3.95-$6.95 and there also breakfast sandwiches ($3.95-$4.95) and several other traditional morning items.
Lunch selections ($2.95-$8.95) include salads, homemade soups, chili, meatballs and sandwich favorites. Try the Monte Cristo or the roast beef special. — Joe Gorman
